Welcome to Connquest.com. We are on a quest to be Connecticut's most useful web directory.
The Internet has changed a lot over the past six years. Just a few years ago... all the major search portals wanted to list web sites within their directories. They all wanted to be the most complete and comprehensive so their users could find anything they were searching for and therefore return more often.Since the collapse of large web businesses, most web portals have cut back their directories to only include sites that pay them for a listing.
The problems with this new approach to the Internet:
1) Web Portals are just advertisements (who wants to surf that?)
2) Many of the web sites and businesses people are searching for cannot be found unless the web site owner advertises within the specific Internet Portal as the web surfer in search of them uses. Unlike some people believe, when a search engine searches for a web site it only searches within its own directories. Search engines do not search the entire Internet.
Since there are thousands upon thousands of Internet Portals.. many sites cannot be found so many sites don't receive any visitors ("The average web site only receives approx. 300 visits per year.") unless the web site owner is spending a fortune on advertising. Even when a web site owner does spend a fortune on advertising their site appears within a group alongside the sites of computer sites and businesses.
3) Portals are no longer complete or comprehensive.
Suppose you want to find a store in Hartford, CT. You know the store is there and you are certain they have a web site but you are unsure of the exact URL (Internet address). Chances are you will only find them by searching in the places where they advertise. The Results....
Nowadays it's hard to find many web sites and very hard for web sites to get listed without extremely high advertising fees which in the end... will still result in lost revenues from surfers (potential customers) clicking into their competitors sites listed beside them.Furthermore.. businesses that charge bottom dollar for products and services strive to save money for themselves in order to pass greater savings onto their customers. High advertising costs cut into savings for customers and clients. There are many great web sites offering the best deals and information available but they are rarely found. Unfortunately, in the future web surfers will have an even harder time finding specific sites and special deals. Instead they will find more advertisements boasting cheap prices. Surfers will continue to get frustrated as they read the fine text print lurking behind and contradicting the false advertising tactics of the banner or popup ad they clicked on.
